Middle School Math
Updates, Events, and Academic Highlights
Welcome
Middle School is the time when students start traveling between classes. It’s the tail end of the transition from elementary to middle school. The day typically begins in homeroom, checking in for the day before they head out to core academic and special area classes. Middle grades consist of 6th, 7th and 8th; it helps students gain greater degrees of independence, responsibility, and self-management.
Middle grades includes increasingly complex text, and comprehension. These are the years of integrating evidence to support thinking, using technology across content areas for researching and presenting, and working with peers to deepen understanding and strengthen writing. In math, the focus is on developing competency and understanding with whole numbers, integers, exponents, finding of areas, and geometry.

- Connect Learning: Link school topics to their extracurricular activities to keep learning relevant.
- Model Thinking: Ask them to explain their ideas and “think out loud” to guide their decision-making.
- Build Routines: Help them establish an organization system for schedules and enforce a consistent bedtime for brain growth.
