Art & Library
Updates, Events, and Academic Highlights
Academic Updates
Art and Library give students room to create, to read widely, and to find what they love. In art, students work with real materials and techniques and learn to look closely, plan a piece, and finish it. In the library, students choose their own books, learn to find information they can trust, and build the habit of reading for pleasure. Both honor the traditions, stories, and artistry of the Navajo Nation.
Students develop:
- Drawing, color, and design fundamentals
- Working with a range of materials and techniques
- Traditional and contemporary Native art forms and the stories behind them
- Choosing books independently and reading for enjoyment
- Finding, evaluating, and citing information
- Caring for shared materials and shared space
We partner closely with families to help every student find something here they want to come back to.
Support at Home
Parents can help by:
- Keep drawing and craft materials within reach at home — paper, pencils, and markers are enough.
- Ask your child to tell you about a piece they made rather than judging whether it looks “right.”
- Visit the school library together and let your child pick the book, even if it seems easy or unusual.
- Read together, or read alongside them, for 15–20 minutes.
- Point out art, weaving, jewelry, and design in your community and family.
- Help your child return library books on time and keep them in good condition.
- Display their finished work somewhere at home.
