Academic Updates
At Leupp Schools, Inc., we believe every child deserves a strong start in a safe, caring, and culturally enriching environment. Second and third grade is where early skills turn into independence — students move from learning to read toward reading to learn, and from counting toward reasoning with numbers. We help students build confidence, curiosity, and a love of learning while honoring the traditions and values of the Navajo Nation.
Our teachers provide hands-on learning experiences that develop:
- Reading fluency and comprehension across longer texts
- Writing complete paragraphs with supporting detail
- Addition, subtraction, and an introduction to multiplication and division
- Social-emotional learning and classroom responsibility
- Navajo language and culture
- Art, physical education, and technology
We partner closely with families to ensure every child is prepared for success throughout their educational journey.
Support at Home
Parents can help by:
- Read together every day for 15–20 minutes — take turns reading aloud so your child hears fluent reading and practices it.
- Ask your child to retell what happened in a story and explain why a character acted the way they did.
- Practice math facts a few minutes a day — addition and subtraction in second grade, and multiplication in third.
- Use everyday moments for math: time, money, measuring while cooking, and counting change.
- Talk about your child’s school day and look over their work with them.
- Encourage independence with homework routines, organizing their backpack, and keeping track of assignments.
- Practice K’é (kindness and respect).
- Limit screen time before bed and keep a regular bedtime routine.
